Soirée d’études explores the rich vocabulary of house dance in a series of studies that are constantly evolving and expanding. In this piece, Cassiel Gaube extends the research set out in his solo Farmer Train Swirl – Étude. An étude, in the musical sense of the term, is a composition intended to explore the possibilities of a particular technique and to experiment with it, which is similar to the practice of house dance. Drawing on recognised movements, the dancer looks for variations on these steps and inventive ways of articulating them. This shared knowledge enables people to read each other’s movements. In collaboration with dancers experienced in street dance, Gaube seeks to reveal the literacy that this practice requires and conveys.

Because I Can is a delicate dance solo created by Eva Recacha in collaboration with performer Lauren Potter and sound artist Alberto Ruiz Soler, which explores notions of power, memory and ageing. The piece is a poetic stream of consciousness in which memories circulate and escape us, leaving a delicate fragrance of nostalgia and loss. The audience sees the performer revisit various memories, her presence becoming an ode to a quiet but liberating rebellion that transforms intimacy into a tower of power.
