ANIMA explores self-confidence through masculine and feminine, gender, binarity and the freedom to seize codes and symbols with risk and brilliance to usher in a new era. It’s about shedding light on identity and the sometimes confusing and complex journey of an adolescent discovering his or her uniqueness. The disagreement that can exist between his body, his desires, his image and his deepest feelings. The younger generation is questioning the notion of gender and the non-binary nature of men and women, and ANIMA brings these bodies into question on stage, between manga aesthetics, non-genre figures and live music. We’re living through a veritable revolution, in which everyone is becoming increasingly free to take charge of their own gender identity and break free from feminine or masculine codes.
It’s also a way of questioning the social injunctions associated with each gender and asking us about the different possibilities for liberation.
