In the autobiographical solo Nabinam, the choreographer intimately shares his story of adoption with the audience, bridging the gap between them. Through his heartfelt story, he reveals the challenges he faced, from comparisons based on skin colour to the pain of separation from a sibling. With honesty and a touch of humour, Nabinam takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster, skilfully navigating the many unpredictable changes of pace.
In his solo 331 grams, Isaiah challenges the limits of his own body. He uses a stethoscope linked to a Lavalier microphone to make his own heartbeat resonate through the theatre’s loudspeakers. His organ thus becomes the musical score of the piece. As the choreographer’s heart moves to new rhythms, a sense of urgency seems to accompany the new tempo, creating a natural crescendo within the choreography. This ‘nakedness’ is used to offer a reflection on the ephemeral race against time, in reaction to the speed at which the world moves today. The creation juxtaposes the exponential technological growth of our societies with the accelerated heartbeat of the performer, offering us a reflection on our human condition.
